If It Doesn't Feel Like Christmas....

it can at least look like Christmas!

With record high temperatures, it feels more like we're having Christmas in July, but getting the house ready gets us in the spirit!

It is so fun to watch Cade get more excited about the Christmas decorations each year. He even helped me un-decorate the fall stuff from the mantle while we were transitioning between seasons. Then, he took some of the stuff and made his own arrangement on the ottoman.

I think the orange cone really distinguishes this from our other decor :)

We always make sure to get our nativity scenes out first. Cade's Advent calendar has all of the nativity "characters" so it serves two purposes. He set it up in his room, and then arranged all of his Star Wars people around it so they could see Baby Jesus.

Other than the Star Wars guys, Cade's favorite decorations this year are his tree in his room (decorated all by himself) and the trees on the front porch.

And I love our tree!!

Our family ornament this year

On December 5, St. Nick visited our house. This is yet another perk to being German... a little Christmas in your stocking before the big day!

What is that strange creature Cade is holding? It is a two-headed fire-breathing dragon! Would you like to find one of those in your stocking? Cade has been wanting one of these since the summer and it was very nice of St. Nick to bring it to our house :)

Another fun Christmas tradition at our house is my Cookie Exchange party. I've held this one and off since 2006 (off years being when Cade was very little!). It was earlier than usual this year because the party had an extra purpose... I only invited ladies from work, and we shipped all of our extra cookies off to one of our colleagues who is deployed to Afghanistan. Packages take about 3 weeks to ship there and we wanted to make sure he and his soldiers got them in plenty of time for Christmas. Since the semester was still going on, we had a small crowd but had a really great time!!

Chance braved the "woman talk" for a few minutes to take our picture. I work with the best ladies!!

Check out all those delicious cookies! Congrats to Kristin for winning "prettiest cookie" and Amanda for winning "tastiest cookie".

We packaged up all of the leftovers and the next day Melinda took 8 boxes of sugar baked goods to the post office. We hope the guys enjoy everything and that it brings a little joy to their time away from home.
