Coach's Family

Being a coach's family sometimes has its rough points... Daddy's long hours at work, living our lives in sports seasons, a summer break that ends in July, and the emotional roller coaster of wins and losses.

BUT.... being a coach's family also has quite a lot of high points... getting to know exceptional young men and women, rejoicing with coaches and athletes after a game well played (and hopefully won), and bonding with other coaches' families (and let's not forget getting a new wardrobe anytime Chance changes jobs)! We are so proud to be Cougars, and we ended the year with several fun events with the other coaches and their families.

Chance's school held an end of the year picnic for all staff and their families. This was not just an event for coaches and their families, but of course that is who we sat with :) Look at all of these kiddos!

The kids were kept busy with a magician, washers, and a bounce house. Since Annie's hero is Cade, she just assumes that she is a 6 year old boy. The bounce house was full of younger kids, but Annie could not be kept out. She is fearless!

Mother of the year takes pictures instead of catching Annie at the bottom of the slide

A few weeks later, we attended the powerlifting banquet. The boys and girls teams were recognized for their successes, and it was fun to see Cade and Chance interact with the athletes. Annie mostly just wanted to play on the stage.

The Cougar baseball team did very well this season (they are actually playing in the 3A state championship tomorrow!), and we went to one of the playoff games in Magnolia. It is much more relaxing to attend a game where Chance is with us in the stands and the mood of our weekend is not dependent on the outcome of the game :)

Cade has gotten to be really good friends with another coach's son. Our boy that used to not leave our sides now plays catch with other kids on the practice field and sits with other kids in the stands. I was so proud of him for branching out, but a tiny bit sad that he doesn't need us so much anymore.

It was REALLY hot, and I needed to get Annie out of the sun. Chance and I took her on a walk around the fields, and Cade decided to grace us with his presence. I was so glad, because we ended up wandering over to the football field (where we all belong, anyway!). Both kids climbed the bleachers! Annie only needed Chance's help on the last 5 steps. It was a long way up there!

Last weekend, one of the Cougar coaches hosted his annual end of the year crawfish boil. This family has quite a fancy "party barn", and it is such a fun setting to celebrate the end of a good year. Cade was especially brave at this party - he tried his first crawfish (loved it) and rode on the 4 wheeler with Chance (loved it more). Despite his face in these pics, he really did have a good time, he just wasn't in a picture mood. Annie took a short ride on the 4 wheeler too, but didn't enjoy it as much as Cade. Cade and Caroline also had lots of fun on the big swing!

And now it is time for summer!
