Track Star

Track camp concluded with two track meets. I have never attended a track meet in my life until 2 weeks ago, and I learned so much! These track meets were well-attended by athletes from College Station, Franklin, Katy, and Hearne. Apparently, a lot of parents take summer track for their little athletes very seriously! Cade got a little nervous before the first meet, but still participated in two events and learned a lot by taking it all in. He and I both learned that there is a lot of waiting around at track meets, and I learned that we need to invest in some serious sun protection if he is going to continue with outdoor sports.

Here we are at meet #1, at his first event - the softball throw.

Then we waited for TWO HOURS for his next event, the 50 meter dash. Unfortunately, I had to leave for work about 5 minutes before his race started, but fortunately, Chance left work early to take my place. I was especially sad to miss Cade's race, because HE WON! He was the fastest in the heat of all kids born in 2008. We were so proud of him!!

The next week, after some extra practice, packing a 2nd pair of shoes for the long jump, and the purchase of a "sportbrella", we were well-prepared for the next meet!

Cade participated in the softball throw, long jump, 4x100 relay, and 50 meter dash. Time passes much more quickly when he is involved in more events! It also helped that we had several friends there too.

Cade's first long jump ever! He didn't scratch and he jumped 6 feet.

Relaxing in the shade with Mama and Jace while we waited for the running events

Next up was the 4x100 relay. Cade and Jace were the only two 6 year olds in the 8 and under group. So, they had to recruit two 8 year olds to be on their team, after these boys had already run (and placed 2nd!) in another relay. Their team did great, and placed 3rd!! We were so proud of them for trying so hard and running their fastest.

Seeing Coach Patton at the end was a fun surprise!

The last, and quickest, event is the 50 meter dash. The kids are divided by the year they were born, and it is truly a dash... over as soon as it starts! Cade did great and placed 4th in his age group.

We took a pic of Cade and the Sullivan boys (Jace and Jackson) with their ribbons and even got one of Cade with his 2 biggest fans. Cade certainly got his love of running from someone other than me or Chance, and we take great joy in watching him do what he loves! Annie is, of course, his other biggest fan, but track meets would not be fun for her.
