Our weekend started off so well... the Hornets had their first home game of the season and Cade and I got to be down on the track when the team ran in. It gave me a great opportunity to get a picture of the fans in the stands.
Cade loved watching the team run in and standing right by the flag during the National Anthem. We proceeded to have a very fun time playing with Cole and visiting with family during the game.
It was a different situation on the field. Without going into painful details (the score, which involved one very big number and one zero), I'll remind all of our wonderful readers that this is a young team that is trying a new defense and a new offense. Despite the tough game, Chance was nice enough to agree to a family picture since we had so many people there. Everyone gathered, Cade did not throw a fit, and one of Chance's former students took the picture for us.
Isn't it lovely? I have no idea what went wrong, but we ended up with a very, very blurry picture. In case you don't recognize the blobs, this is who all was in attendance: Nana & Papa, Papaw, Aunt Betty, Uncle Fred, White Hair Nana, and Bill's grandson (our nephew) Nathan, who recently moved to Houston from Florida. We were so excited that everyone was there and I was so disappointed that the picture did not turn out!
Onto Saturday: Two of Cade's classmates had a birthday party at the pool. The kids had a good time playing in the freezing cold water and drawing with chalk all around the pool. Our little boy was so tired from Daddy's game that he asked to go home about 45 minutes into the party. We were getting all of our stuff together when it was time for cupcakes, which of course Cade wanted to stay for. The insane amount of blue icing he consumed gave him the energy burst he needed to stay for the present opening. All was well until it was time to take a group picture. Let's just say that Cade was not in the photo and everyone remembers our exit. No pictures of that necessary.
After a nice nap, Cade and Chance headed to Nana and Papa's to visit with Nathan while I stayed home to bake. Once a month I make refreshments for our church. Yesterday, I decided to go beyond my usual cookies, muffins, and bread and bake the Apple Cream Cheese Cake that is on the cover of this month's Southern Living magazine. I had such fun making it... my favorite Texas Country music was playing, I really enjoy the mixing and creating process, and the house smelled so good from all of the spices. After the cake cooled a little while in the pan, it was time to remove my beautiful creation onto the cooling rack.
To use a quote from one of my favorite movies, Hitch, I'll say "I saw that going differently in my head". I have no idea why some of my cake wanted to remain in the pan. Once again, I was pretty disappointed, but thankful that I would have to cut the cake for church anyway and no one there would know about the disaster. It did taste very good, though, and every bite was eaten this morning.
We are so thankful for our family, our freedom, our faith, and all of those who protect us on this 10 year anniversary of the tragedy that changed our nation forever. We pray that we all act in ways to honor the sacrifices that so many have made for us.

Am I a bad friend because some of your weekend dissapointments made me laugh...mainly Cade's birthday exit? Reminds me of my boys exit from Cade's Mickey Mouse birthday party. I still remember that meltdown like it was yesterday:)
