Giving Thanks

I love Thanksgiving. The beautiful fall colors, the focus on giving thanks for our countless everyday blessings, and of course the delicious food all make this a very special holiday!

We started this handprint banner last year, and were very happy to add Annie's hand this year! We also re-traced Cade's because he pointed out that his hand had grown since last year.

And what better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than eating a turkey cookie? Thank you, Oma, for sending this tasty treat to Cade!

On Thanksgiving Day, we traveled to Palestine with Chance's family for a little vacation. We all stayed together in a house and took the kids to the Polar Express Train. This was a really fun trip that reminded me of two things: 1. I married into a great family! 2. I am very thankful that I was born in 1979, not 1879.

The house we stayed in was built in 1891. While the owners of the property have updated it with plumbing, electricity, a small kitchen, and some heaters, it was still quite different than our usual living situation. Combine that with the fact that it was in the 20s and 30s all weekend, and you are looking at very cold people that had to bundle up to go to the bathroom (no heat in there!) or walk outside to talk to anyone. But you know what? It was OK! We all had such a great time, and the setting was really beautiful. The kids were totally unaffected by the cold and had more fun being outside than they ever have before.

A short walk down from the house was a fishing pond and a fire pit. The boys (young and old) all enjoyed fishing, exploring, and building the fire. I don't have any pictures of the fire. By the time the sun went down, there was no way I was taking my hands out of my pockets to take a picture!

Annie spent a lot of time in our room to stay warm. She dined on sweet potatoes and applesauce for her first Thanksgiving meal and took a nice nap in the big bed the next day.

The main attraction of the trip was the Polar Express train. This was a magical way to begin our Christmas season!

Thank you so much, Nana and Papa, for taking us on this trip!!!
