Our first priority was getting Cade's room all set up. His bed was made and his toys were out by about 3:00 pm on moving day so that when we got home from school things would feel pretty normal for him. This week we finished hanging posters and setting up his new shelves. He really loves having so much space to play in his room, and it is very handy that he can use his little table as a spot to do homework.
The next focus was the kitchen. Every time we visited our new house during construction, my biggest worry was the kitchen. I was convinced that I would be losing precious cabinet and counterspace that we had in the old house and was very concerned about not having a kitchen window. As much as I hate eating my words, I can safely say that I really do like our new kitchen! The island is huge and offers much more prep space than I imagined. And while the cabinet space is set up very differently, I managed to find a place for almost everything. I've done quite a bit of baking already, which makes this space feel much more like home. And who needs a window with these great pendants and lights under the cabinets? I love them!!
The easiest rooms to set up were the bathrooms. It may have been a bit of an exaggeration when I told friends at work last week that we finished 2 rooms in one night... they do not have to know that these rooms had the smallest square footage of anything in the house! We have one Aggie bathroom (which will be the little girl's bathroom eventually) and Cade's orange bathroom.
Chance and I have a bathroom too, of course, but it is not as cute or exciting as these. But it is quite large, and we even have separate vanities! We also really like our bedroom, probably because it is set up exactly like our old one. We are quite the creatures of habit, and will probably even paint this one blue like our old one eventually.
Our extra bedroom/ study is still un-decorated, but it is functional.
That is everything that has been completed so far. Here's some pictures of our projects in progress:
The backyard: We don't really know which trees are alive or dead, but we did know that all of the undergrowth had to go. Last Sunday Chance and Cade got after it!
The dining room: Currently the dumping ground for everything that does not have a place yet. We have exactly 3 spots clear on the table for us to sit at to eat, and every other surface is covered in pictures that need to be hung, paperwork, and who knows what else. So, our view from the table looks like this:
Sarge does not seem to like the gigantic fish. And I think we may just keep the empty tubs there... I fondly call it my Tower of Success.
The baby's room: Hands down, the scariest room in the house. Anything remotely related to a child under the age of 4 currently resides in the room. Sometimes I can't even look around - I just crack the door open, put something down, and quickly close the door before I freak out. We have very high hopes for great progress over spring break. One small step was Chance and Cade putting the crib together.
Speaking of the baby, I am now 33 weeks along! That means that the baby is due in 7 weeks. 49 days. That is less than 50. Ohmygoodness. We took our first belly pic at the new house last week for 32 weeks.
And we took our "waiting on the baby" family picture. We did this about a month before Cade was born, and he requested that we take a new picture this time so he could be in it. I'm always happy to comply when he requests a picture!
Hopefully I'll post again somewhat soon with pictures of the rest of the rooms of the house. Wish us luck!
