Growin' Up

As we wait for the newest member of our family to arrive, our big kid is growing up so much! I picked up his school pictures last week, and while the background is cheesy as ever, the subject matter is top notch! Look at that handsome pre-K graduate!

Last Saturday was such a rare treat - Chance was home!! He decided not to go to the boys' state powerlifting meet in Abilene just in case Little Lady made an early appearance. While I was actually happy not to go into labor (too much to still do!), I was so thankful to have him home. I had lots of papers to grade, so Chance took Cade fishing at their favorite pond. It was a little chilly!

That afternoon, we went to the spring carnival at the elementary school that Cade will attend next year. Other than giving him the wrong idea that there are bounce houses at kindergarten, I think this was a great way to introduce him to the "big school"! We played on the playground, explored the gym and cafeteria, snuck into a classroom, and had lots of fun on the inflatables. He seemed pretty quiet and overwhelmed at first, but by the time we left he decided that kindergarten would be pretty fun! And I think I only cried about 5 times :)

In an effort to pack as much as possible into one day, we went straight from the carnival to Calvin's birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. Things went a little downhill here... Cade ate an insane amount of icing, which resulted in a crazy energy surge. This prompted some wild skee ball playing and an important lesson on the differences between rolling and throwing the ball. I take Cade to birthday parties all the time, and while Cade isn't usually the crazy one, I am used to seeing these kinds of behaviors post-cake. Chance, however, is a relative newbie at children's birthday celebrations. I am pretty sure that he is going to sign up for any possible type of coaching or other work on birthday party Saturdays. The poor man was in shock at all of the screaming, lights, and general chaos. He said it was more overwhelming than Vegas. All of this, after things started off so well with Cade and Carter playing a shooting game with their dads. Oh, Daddy, it will be OK.

Sunday was much calmer and Chance has recovered nicely.
