We started the birthday off right with a breakfast of 5 donut holes for the 5 year old. Then he went to school for a fun day learning about the Earth with his friends. I took a special birthday snack of ice cream to his class in the afternoon. Most of these kids have gone to school together since they were infants, and all of them looked to old to me today!
After school, Cade played with Oma (she is here helping this week - thank goodness!) and Annie and started the looong wait for Daddy to get home. He know that he could not open his presents until we were all together, and it was sure hard to wait! I thought it was very sweet that he wanted Annie in the picture of him and his presents.
After opening his presents (a Dr. Seuss book, Captain America, and some GI Joes), we ate Cade's choice of Freebirds for dinner and had his birthday dessert. He wanted M&M cookies instead of a cake and I made him one special cookie with all orange M&Ms.
Although I wish I didn't look half asleep in the picture (and I probably was), I wouldn't trade our life for anything! We have a 5 year old boy who we are incredibly proud of and an 8 day old little girl who is more precious to us every day!
To finish Cade's birthday post, here are some excerpts from a "VIP interview" I did with him this week:
Favorite foods: Vanilla and chocolate ice cream and Chicken Express
Favorite color: Orange
Favorite thing to do at school: Play outside
Favorite thing to do at home: Play with Mama and Daddy
Favorite superhero: Captain America
Favorite show: Curious George
Favorite thing about turning 5: Being a big brother
What he wants to be when he grows up: "I don't want a job. I just want to be a Daddy like my Daddy"
How many kids do you want to have? 386
Who do you love? Mama, Daddy, Annie, Holly, Kitty (even though he isn't a very good Cat sometimes), Garrett, all my friends, and God and Jesus
I asked some other questions, but the interviewer has misplaced her notes and seems to have absolutely no short term memory right now.
We love you, buddy, and can't wait for the adventures of a five year old!
