Home for Christmas

We are so thankful that our families honor our request to be at our house on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It is so special to create our own little traditions and get to relax together.

On Christmas Eve, the kids wrote their letters to Santa before we went to church.

We also spent some time playing with our crazy kitten, Cougar. He loves the tree! I'm not sure what Annie is doing with him on her lap, but it looks like she is praying that he stays asleep!

Chance cooked a delicious breakfast dinner that we ate before our church service that night. It was a wonderful service filled with messages of God's light. Afterwards, some of the men had the very tricky task of moving the gigantic Christmas tree down off of the stage. The tree made the move with only a few ornament catastrophes.

Since we never had time to do so earlier in the season, we drove around looking at Christmas lights after church. The kids and Chance usually look for Rudolph's nose in the sky after church, but we didn't see him this year. However, thanks to the Santa Tracker on a local radio station, we heard that Santa was already in Ft. Worth as we started to head home! Annie was so afraid that he would miss our house that she went straight to bed when we got home. Cade took the time to set out cookies and chocolate milk for Santa, strawberry milk for Mrs. Claus, peppermints for the elves, and raisins for the reindeer.

And just like that, Christmas magic came down on us and the tree was filled with gifts! The kids are always amazingly compliant with my picture requests on Christmas morning.

We have so much to be thankful for, and while we try hard to teach Cade and Annie that Christmas is about so much more than gifts, it sure is fun to watch them open their presents. Cade got Pokemon cards, a phlat ball, and a note from Santa that gave him money to buy new running shoes (although, due to a last-minute Christmas Eve request, Santa had to add in the option to buy a Nerf gun). Annie got a new baby, a Minnie Mouse helmet, and new light-up shoes. Her last minute request of Pokemon cards was not fulfilled, leading to the face of slight disbelief/disappointment in one picture. Santa did his best. At least the pets were happy with their gifts!

Chance continued his Christmas cooking spree by making homemade doughnuts. The kids LOVE these and it is definitely a special occasion when we let them eat them. The rest of the day was spent going to church, seeing the movie Sing, playing with toys, going on walks (in the lovely December heat wave), and just enjoying being together.

The next few days were spent seeing friends and relaxing at home before we were off to our next Christmas destination!
