We started our celebration with a flashback to my childhood... coming home to see a dead deer hanging from the clothesline. When I was little, this happened at my Oma and Opa's house, and I'm glad Cade and Annie got to see the same thing happening at their grandparents'! And interestingly, our little girl who is scared of Santa was extremely interested in the deer. Both kids found it much funnier than I did when my shoes got splattered with blood.
Another flash from the past let me find these treasures on my parents' tree.
That night, we went to the Plaza after dinner so we could see the lights. It is so very pretty! I definitely didn't appreciate the beauty and history of this spot when I was growing up. My parents showed us where our family bricks are around the Plaza and it was nice to see everyone's names together. Not pictured, just to the left, is the Eiband brick, which has my dad's mom's family names on it. They owned one of the original stores in New Braunfels, which used to stand right by where we parked that night.
A tasty visit to Two Tarts finished our night!
The next morning took us to Great Oma's house for Christmas lunch and gifts. Every picture I have of Annie at Great Oma's house, from every visit we've ever had there, shows her sassy attitude. This girl will smile when she wants to and only when she wants to.
No trip to NB is complete without going to Spring Loaded!
The guys got to go shooting at the same place where my family always hunts. Cade was super excited to go with Chance and Opa, and he looks so grown up with the big gun!
Our last activity was the Guenther Christmas Reunion. Every year it is such a treat to see aunts, uncles, and cousins there. Annie was so happy to have little people to run around with! Santa visited the reunion again this year, and Annie didn't cry! She didn't like him, but she didn't cry. Last year, Santa had a very interesting Mrs. Claus with pink hair. The hair color changed this year, but they still seemed like kind of a strange couple.
One of my favorite parts of the reunion is the family and generation pictures. If we lined all of these up from the past 30+ years, we would sure see some changes!
